Already using Samsara? What its record leaves open

    Limitations the Samsara profile records:

    • No published pricing for any package or device
    • Dashboard form edits overwrite all previous versions
    • Routine wearable location depends on nearby Samsara network devices

Available only under stated conditions or not documented (checked 14 October 2026): Driver App offline queue; Lone-worker SOS and fall detection; Incident Center and Connected Training; Form edit history; US HOS and ELD compliance workflows; Connected maintenance from DVIR defects and diagnostics. Check each against the contract you hold.

Listed candidates that document a capability with a related name (confirm the scope in a demo):

    • “Incident Center and Connected Training”: SMS360's “Incident capture, investigation and corrective actions”.

Samsara evaluation checks, for every candidate

    • Package boundary: Map each safety need to Safety Premier, Safety Enterprise or an add-on before comparing quotes. Source
    • Record integrity: Check how an edited form's earlier answers are preserved, given that dashboard edits overwrite previous versions. Source
    • Low-coverage behaviour: Brief drivers on the offline banners and test sign-out with queued work on your own routes. Source
    • Lone-worker coverage: Map where lone workers are relative to Samsara network devices, since the wearable's specification lists only 2.4 GHz advertisements picked up by nearby devices, with its own GPS added during an SOS. Source
    • Data integration: Confirm the Forms API covers exporting submissions to your EHS or document system. Source

Leaving Samsara: what to plan for

    • Hardware is the first line of any exit plan. The camera, gateway and wearable are the vendor's own devices, and the record says the safety features depend on them. Dash cams hold up to 746 hours of video locally, so decide which clips are evidence for open claims or investigations and save them before units are removed. A replacement may bring its own installation visits and per-vehicle costs.
    • Pull the submitted forms out through the interface before the contract ends. The help article says saving a dashboard edit overwrites earlier versions, so what you export is the last saved answer and not necessarily the original. Where audit trails matter, check a sample of corrected forms now, and record which ones cannot show their first answers, so nobody expects them later.
    • For a fleet that runs electronic logs under a regional rule, changing platforms touches compliance, not only convenience. The record documents a registered logging device with driver countdowns, rule sets, log review and certification, and says to confirm jurisdiction, hardware and licence coverage. Plan the changeover around driver log retention and roadside inspection readiness, and keep vehicle defect reports and repair history available too.

Who may have reason to stay with Samsara

    • Where telematics is already needed, a single platform keeps these together, which a move would split. The record's own verdict ties its value to driving exposure and dispersed crews, with coaching, inspections and emergency alerts in one place. Before leaving, price what it would cost to run three separate tools, and who would reconcile their data.
    • In-cab coaching depends on which risky behaviours the cameras detect, so compare lists and not counts. The two public pages give different totals for the higher package, and the plans page and the safety page do not agree. If coaching is why you stay, confirm in writing which detections your package includes today, then ask a replacement for the same itemised list.
    • Crews who work beside vehicles are the group the wearable's design assumes. Routine location comes from nearby network devices picking up its signal, with its own positioning added only during an alert. A lone worker who is far from vehicles is exposed to a gap, and that is true of staying and of any replacement that depends on nearby devices, so test coverage on real sites.

What to test in a trial of a replacement for Samsara

    • Test the sign-out case on purpose. Put the phone in aeroplane mode, complete a form with photos, sign out before reconnecting, then sign back in and look for the submission. The record warns that signing out or force-closing while the app shows it is working offline can lose queued work, and that forms were not named in the offline description, so each candidate needs the same test.
    • Correct a submitted form in each candidate and then look for the original answers. A tool that keeps only the latest values may be acceptable for some forms and not for incident reports. Note who changed what and when, whether a reason was recorded, and whether an auditor could reconstruct the first version from the system alone.
    • Before comparing quotes, sort every need into the package that holds it. The record separates the base and higher safety packages and lists incident review and training as other products. Ask for gateways, cameras, wearables, installation and software to be priced as separate lines with term and renewal, then check that no item you counted on is missing.
