    Where the two scopes differ

The records describe different units of work. The Chemwatch record covers chemical management sold as separate editions: BackPack as an SDS library, GoldFFX adding manifests, one-page task risk assessments and labels, Chemeritus adding approvals, container tracking and an API on its page, with a mobile app alongside and SDS authoring tools and regulatory databases as separate purchases. The Safesite record covers mobile inspections with evidence rules, hazards with assigned corrective follow-up, toolbox talks, equipment-linked inspections, incident administration and certification tracking. It does not describe a chemical register, which is the centre of the Chemwatch record.

Entry terms differ in shape. Chemwatch lets a small library sit in a Backpack Limited account at no charge, which the record treats as a restricted SDS store and not a licence to the paid editions, and shows no price for any paid edition. Safesite shows a free plan with unlimited members and guests but a thirty-day reporting window, a Premium rate of $16 per member a month with a 20% annual discount and a thirty-day Premium trial, though the currency and billing basis are unconfirmed; its insurance services belong to a separate commercial scope.

Entitlement and process boundaries need checking in each. For Chemwatch, only the Chemeritus page describes approvals, SiSoT tracking and the API, and the vendor's pages give different SDS refresh frequencies, so the edition decides the answer. For Safesite, workers join by invitation and anonymous reporting is not established; the help guide rules out editing an inspection once it is completed, and hazard resolution needs a comment or photo without a separate verifier stage. Both vendors document offline use, and the records ask for sync behaviour to be tested on real devices.

When each is the safer first demo

    Start with Chemwatch when

Hold the Chemwatch session first when the unit of work is a chemical. Ask to see one of your supplier sheets updated and compared, a one-page risk assessment for a real task with SDS-derived fields marked, and a manifest quantity checked against a store limit, with the edition named for each step.

    Start with Safesite when

Hold the Safesite session first when the unit of work is a recurring check on a phone. Ask to see a template that demands a photo after a negative answer, a hazard resolved with evidence, a completed inspection you need to correct, and a toolbox talk with attendance recorded.

    A two-week evaluation plan

    Ask Chemwatch

    • Which edition is quoted, and are SiSoT, approvals, the web-services API, the mobile app, authoring and regulatory databases separate lines?
    • How often are library sheets refreshed for the quoted edition, given that the vendor's pages cite different frequencies?

    Ask Safesite

    • Who counts as a billable member, and which billing setting gives the displayed monthly figure, in what currency?
    • How are records exported and kept beyond the thirty-day free window, and how is an inspection completed in error corrected?

Week 1: load a realistic sample. In Chemwatch, use a small library in Backpack Limited if it fits, and ask for a vendor-run environment to see the paid editions, since the free account is not a trial of them. In Safesite, invite two workers on the free plan, build a template that needs evidence, and run it once offline. Both vendors advertise a free route, but each covers only part of what the paid product does.

Week 2: in Chemwatch, generate a risk assessment for a real task and note which fields you supplied, then scan a container out and back in offline, reconnect and read the manifest and audit trail. In Safesite, resolve a hazard with a photo, try to correct a finished inspection, and export reports to see what the reporting window hides. Finish by listing every paid addition each exercise exposed.

    Worked evaluation scenarios

These scenarios are hypothetical. They show how to turn the record facts into a demo test and what outcome would change a choice; they are not case studies or customer results.

Hypothetical: a paint distributor with 180 safety data sheets and three stores

A paint distributor holds about 180 supplier safety data sheets across three stores and wants one register with storage limits. The Chemwatch record describes separate editions: an SDS library, an edition with manifests and storage limits, and one whose page lists approvals and container tracking. The Safesite record describes templates, hazards and equipment-linked inspections, and does not describe an SDS library or chemical register. Ask Chemwatch which edition covers the stores and the register, then build a storeroom inspection template in Safesite and note where quantities and sheets would still be kept. If the register stays in a spreadsheet beside Safesite, price that duplicate effort.

Hypothetical: a twelve-person subcontractor proving value before any budget

A twelve-person subcontractor has no budget yet and wants evidence before asking for one. The Chemwatch record shows a no-cost Backpack Limited tier for up to 50 sheets, kept apart from the paid editions. The Safesite record shows a free plan with unlimited members and a thirty-day reporting window, and a Premium rate displayed without a confirmed currency. Use each free route for five weeks with real work, then note what disappears from view, what has to be exported and which feature you needed that sits behind a paid tier. If the first limit is reached in week one, the free route cannot serve as the pilot.

Hypothetical: a store without signal where a container is scanned out

A chemical store sits behind thick walls where phones lose signal, and a storekeeper scans a container out while an inspector completes a checklist. The Chemwatch record says its mobile app works offline with container scans and stocktakes, notes that downloading by folder was not yet released and finds conflict handling undocumented. The Safesite record says core functions work offline and synchronise on reconnection, and asks for downloaded templates and attachments to be tested. Run one scan and one inspection offline on the phones you would issue, reconnect and compare manifests, records and history. If an entry vanishes or duplicates, record the recovery step you would need.

What the records do not establish

    Chemwatch

    • Any amount for a paid edition, the mobile app, the API or the regulatory data products.
    • That approvals, container tracking or the API come with an edition other than Chemeritus.
    • Conflict handling after an offline reconnection, or offline download of a large library folder by folder.
    • Which refresh frequency applies to the edition you would buy.

    Safesite

    • The currency and billing basis of the displayed Premium rate.
    • Anonymous or login-free reporting by contractors.
    • A separate verifier or rejection stage for hazard resolution.
    • A chemical register, SDS library or storage limits, none of which the record describes.

    Neither product

    • Which product lowers chemical incidents or inspection backlogs: no outcome data was reviewed.
    • What customers think of either product, as legacy ratings are excluded from both records.
    • Outcomes from trying either product in practice.

How should I compare offline capability?
Use the exact proposed mobile application and plan. Download required data, disconnect, create a record with a photo, reconnect and inspect synchronization. Record which preparation and tasks require connectivity.
How should I decide between these products?
