    Where the two scopes differ

The two records start from different units of purchase. The SafeContractor record describes a UK service in which a contractor completes a questionnaire, uploads evidence and goes through an auditor assessment, after which a hiring client uses the assessed record in a portal; certification lasts twelve months. The Riskonnect record describes a risk-management portfolio in which Health & Safety is one part; its listing names event intake and investigation, audits, corrective follow-up, permit tracking, contractors and a chemical inventory, while claims is treated as a separate solution. In the first record the assessed company is the object of the work, in the second it is the safety event.

Money and territory are shaped differently. SafeContractor publishes contractor-side starting fees, from £540 a year (Standard) to £690 (Premier), states that the final price follows employee numbers and adds a one-off joining fee; the hiring-client licence is quoted separately, and the SafeSupplier page states plans from £379 a year for a distinct supplier scope. Riskonnect shows no numeric Health & Safety subscription and ties cost to the scale, complexity and tailoring of a project, and offers three implementation approaches called Essentials, Pro Configuration and Tailored Configuration, which its GoLive page ties to different timelines. A fee paid by a contractor is not a software licence, so the two sets of figures should not be set against each other.

The open questions differ too. For SafeContractor the record finds no named-worker identity, site-admission or disconnected workflow in the UK pages reviewed, and treats certification as separate from induction, permits and project approval. The service was formerly branded Alcumus SafeContractor, and the Alcumus group site now points to separate SafeContractor and ISOQAR sites, so older material may use either name. For Riskonnect the record does not establish offline Health & Safety use and keeps enterprise risk, compliance and claims scope apart from a Health & Safety licence. Neither record states a monitoring or service interval.

When each is the safer first demo

    Start with SafeContractor when

Begin with SafeContractor if the pressing question is which contractors to admit to a UK supply chain and what evidence each must show. Ask to see one contractor taken from questionnaire to auditor assessment to the hiring-client view, with insurance expiry and RAG indicators, and ask which decisions stay with your own team.

    Start with Riskonnect when

Begin with Riskonnect if the pressing question is what follows a safety event: investigation, corrective work and, where quoted, a handoff to claims. Ask to see one event handled by a frontline user, an investigator and a claims handler, each limited to their own permissions, and ask which modules and implementation approach the quote assumes.

    A two-week evaluation plan

    Ask SafeContractor

    • Which exact product, territory and portal does the order form name, and can contractor fees and the hiring-client licence be shown on separate schedules?
    • Who may grant an exception to a failed or missing item, and where are the decision and its reason kept?

    Ask Riskonnect

    • Which Health & Safety modules, claims licences and implementation approach does the quote assume, with recurring and one-off charges on separate lines?
    • Which API or interface would carry your data for the product you buy, and who maintains it after go-live?

Week 1: with test data, take one representative contractor through each product's onboarding. In SafeContractor that means registration, questions for two work categories and an uploaded insurance certificate; in Riskonnect, a contractor registered through the self-service route with one uploaded document, plus an incident reported by a frontline user. Note who reviews, how long each step takes and which status a hiring-client user sees. A free self-service trial appears in neither record; settle test users and dates with each vendor before you begin.

Week 2: swap the insurance certificate for an expired one and see what each product shows and to whom. In Riskonnect, route the incident to an investigator and test the claims handoff if it is quoted, and confirm that a safety-only user is refused the restricted claim records. In SafeContractor, ask how a company assessment connects to your own induction and permit decisions. Finish by listing each requirement that needs a further order, such as SafeSupplier or a claims licence.

    Worked evaluation scenarios

These scenarios are hypothetical. They show how to turn the record facts into a demo test and what outcome would change a choice; they are not case studies or customer results.

Hypothetical: a housing association onboarding 60 small trade contractors

A housing association expects about sixty small trade firms to be onboarded before its winter repairs programme, and wants insurance details and each firm's health and safety arrangements on file before work starts. The SafeContractor record describes a certification that contractors pay for, with starting annual fees that rise with headcount and a one-off joining fee, while hiring-client access is quoted separately. The Riskonnect record lists contractor management within Health & Safety but shows no numeric price. Choose five contractors across two trades, one already holding an SSIP certificate, and ask each vendor who reviews the evidence, who pays and how long it takes. If the cost lands on firms that refuse it, or the review falls to your staff, the shortlist changes.

Hypothetical: a group with UK sites and a Canadian subsidiary

A group runs eight UK sites and one Canadian subsidiary and wants a single contractor process for both. The SafeContractor record covers the UK service only and names Veriforce Canada as a separate product to be scoped and ordered on its own. The Riskonnect record describes a portfolio of solution families and warns that a list of products does not establish one licence or shared entitlement. Ask each vendor to name in writing the contracting entity, the product and the data location for each country, then request a sample order form. If a territory sits in a different order or portal, or a quoted module is missing from one country, count two programmes rather than one when you compare effort.

Hypothetical: an insurance certificate that lapses mid-contract

A contractor's public liability certificate expires three weeks into a six-month refit. The SafeContractor record says insurance cover and its expiry are visible to hiring clients and that the vendor describes ongoing monitoring, with the timing left for you to contract. The Riskonnect record lists contractor scope among the Health & Safety features, with the vendor page mentioning self-service registration and automated document checks, and leaves the purchased modules and approval controls to be confirmed. Replace a test certificate with an expired one in each product, then note who is told, how soon, what status the contractor shows and where the earlier document and the decision are kept. If nobody hears before the date, or the first certificate's history disappears, the monitoring claim needs written terms.

What the records do not establish

    SafeContractor

    • A price for the hiring-client licence: the published figures are contractor-side starting fees.
    • Named-worker identity, site admission or disconnected operation in the UK service.
    • That monitoring frequency, evidence-age rules or escalation timing suit your needs, which the record leaves to the contract.
    • That SafeSupplier, consultancy or carbon reporting come with the portal.

    Riskonnect

    • An amount for a Health & Safety subscription, or an established free trial.
    • Working without a connection, or syncing afterwards, for the Health & Safety tasks.
    • That claims, enterprise risk or compliance functions come with a Health & Safety licence.
    • Which of the three implementation approaches fits your configuration.

    Neither product

    • Whether either product shortens contractor onboarding or lowers incident numbers: no outcome figures were reviewed.
    • How users rate either service: the records draw on vendor material and carry no independent review.
    • Findings from a hands-on trial, which neither record claims.

Written from the profile records and the decision guide above, not from a hands-on test. Where a record is silent, the page says so instead of filling the gap.
