Where the two scopes differ
The two records describe different breadth. Octave Reliance, formerly ETQ Reliance, is described as a configurable eQMS platform with more than 40 applications for manufacturers; an FAQ on the Reliance eQMS page names life sciences, pharmaceuticals, medical devices, automotive, aerospace, food and beverage, electronics and heavy industry. The record covers documents with linked training, audits that start investigations or corrective actions, nonconformance, CAPA with root-cause tools, supplier and material quality, risk and recurring compliance tasks, mobile work and a separately scoped analytics offering. Qualio's record is of a life-science eQMS: controlled documents, training, quality events, suppliers and audits, with design controls, parts, software-development evidence and a developer API on the product side. One is configured out of a large portfolio; the other is bought as a tier with stated allowances.
Two details are easy to blur. The first is offline work. The Octave pages say the mobile app can be used offline and synchronised afterwards, but the record notes that task coverage, attachment limits and conflict rules are not enumerated; the Qualio record says offline editing, training and event synchronisation were not established. The second is entitlement. The Octave record warns that a 40-application portfolio does not show that all applications, connectors, analytics services and AI capabilities are bundled into one subscription, and describes Reliance Go as a separately positioned small-business edition with licensing-only pricing. Qualio's pricing page gives a table of allowances instead: edit users, event templates, frameworks and integrations, with an implementation fee on every plan. Neither record shows a subscription amount, although an FAQ answer on the Octave page describes pricing by users, modules or sites.
On regulated-industry statements, the Octave record cautions that standards-oriented workflows do not certify a customer's system, and it lists no certifications. Its Reliance page states that the platform supports electronic signatures for 21 CFR Part 11 and EU Annex 11, and that records for life-science customers carry an audit trail and validation support, while its eQMS page lists a Validation Services offering for full or assisted validation. Those statements are not in the profile record, so treat them as vendor claims to verify. Qualio's validation overview describes a configurable GAMP 5 system, a support pack with a test plan, a traceability matrix and video evidence, and a customer duty to qualify Qualio as a supplier and summarise suitability for use. In both cases the intended-use assessment stays with you; ask each vendor what its material still covers after you configure.

When each is the safer first demo
Start with Octave Reliance when
Start with Octave Reliance when several sites need the same quality process with local differences, or when staff must capture audits and nonconformances on mobile devices. Set up one audit across two sites that each carry their own local questions, record a finding, start a corrective action and reject its first closure. Ask for the quote to map each workflow to a named application and edition, since the breadth of the portfolio does not show what is licensed.
Start with Qualio when
Start with Qualio when the work is document-led: a changed procedure, the retraining that follows and a supplier or product issue taken to an effectiveness check, in a life-science setting. Check the tier first, with its edit-user count and its template, framework and integration allowances, and ask whether design controls are enabled if product development will use the system.
A two-week evaluation plan
Ask Octave Reliance
- Which applications, edition, sites, environments and users are in the quote, and which Reliance Go or analytics components are separate lines?
- Which mobile tasks work offline on our devices, and what are the rules for attachments, signatures, stale revisions and conflicting edits?
- Which validation services and customer-side effort apply to our intended use, and who owns configuration and upgrades after handover?
Ask Qualio
- Which plan does the quote assume, and what are its edit-user count, event-template, framework and integration allowances, and what does the implementation fee cover?
- Which documents in the validation support pack are current, and who signs off intended-use risk and configuration after a release?
- Are design controls enabled in our plan, and how are extra users, frameworks, instances and connectors charged?
Week 1, same synthetic scenario in both: revise an approved procedure, send the first approval back, approve the second draft and show the training that follows, then retrieve the superseded version and export the history. For Octave, repeat the revision from a second account while a mobile user is disconnected, then reconnect. Ask the Qualio vendor to describe in writing how a field observation would be captured with no connection, since none is documented.
Week 2, each product's own reach. In Octave, configure an audit for two sites, record a finding, start a corrective action with root-cause analysis, reject insufficient evidence and test overdue escalation; if supplier quality is quoted, add an expired certificate. In Qualio, run a supplier nonconformance through investigation and an effectiveness check, plan an internal audit with a linked finding and, if quoted, alter a design input in the sandbox. Close by reading each quote line against what the sessions required.
Worked evaluation scenarios
These scenarios are hypothetical. They show how to turn the record facts into a demo test and what outcome would change a choice; they are not case studies or customer results.
Hypothetical: a three-site manufacturer with different local audit questions
A manufacturer with three plants wants one audit process, with each plant adding its own questions, and wants every finding to start a corrective action with its audit context intact. The Octave record describes audit checklists configured per audit and findings that can start investigations, corrective actions or changes. In the Qualio record, internal audits carry scheduled tasks, evidence, due dates and findings that can link to a corrective action or a nonconformance, and its pricing page lists multiple instances as an added fee. Build the same two-site audit in each product, record a finding, reject the first closure and report open findings by plant. If plants need separate instances, or the report cannot split by site without an export, price that in.
Hypothetical: an audit on a floor with no signal
An internal auditor walks a production area where the network drops out and needs to record a nonconformance with a photograph. The Octave pages say the mobile app can work offline and synchronise later, while the record notes that parity across applications, attachment limits and conflict rules are not published. The Qualio record says offline use was not established. In the Octave demo, preload the audit, disconnect, record the finding with an attachment, change the procedure online from another account, reconnect, and inspect duplicates, history and any retraining. For Qualio, ask the vendor to say in writing how disconnected capture would be handled. If the offline route covers only some record types, decide what fills the gap.
Hypothetical: a portfolio page beside a three-tier plan table
A procurement lead holds two documents: a portfolio page naming more than 40 applications, and a plan table with ticks and allowances. The Octave record warns that the portfolio does not show which applications, connectors, analytics services or AI features a subscription includes, and notes that Reliance Go is a separately positioned edition. The Qualio pricing page shows what Foundation and Growth include, which items are add-ons and which carry an additional fee. Ask both vendors to return the same worksheet: each workflow you need, the application or tier that delivers it, the licence line, the users and sites covered, and any add-on. Rows marked 'to be scoped' show where price is still open. Compare the scope covered before the figure at the bottom.
What the records do not establish
Octave Reliance
- A numeric subscription amount, currency or self-service free trial.
- Record-by-record offline parity, authentication behaviour, attachment limits or conflict rules.
- Which of the 40-plus applications, connectors, analytics services or AI features sit in one subscription.
- Any result from the vendor's case studies or return-on-investment figures for your own organisation.
Qualio
- A subscription amount or a self-service free trial.
- Offline editing, training completion or event synchronisation.
- Whether the plan you would be quoted has design controls enabled, or which connectors your tier includes.
- Handling of industries outside life sciences; the record describes a life-science product.
Neither product
- Implementation time, total cost and user satisfaction are unknown; no customer-review sample is included in either record.
- That either vendor's statements on electronic signatures or validation hold for your configuration: the records place intended-use assessment with the customer.
Written from the profile records and the decision guide above, not from a hands-on test. Where a record is silent, the page says so instead of filling the gap.
