    Where the two scopes differ

Each record opens with a note about identity, and the two notes explain why neither name stands for one fixed subscription. For HSI Donesafe the note concerns ownership, since HSI announced its acquisition of Donesafe in February 2020 and the product uses the combined name, and it concerns modules, since a module shown in the catalogue is not assumed to be in every subscription. For EcoOnline the note concerns a portfolio built partly by acquisition: Chemical Manager, Sypol, regional eCompliance and the Ecometrica-based ESG software keep their own scope and are not aliases for the brand. A buyer comparing the two should therefore compare named modules, not company names.

The ways the products are assembled differ. The HSI Donesafe record describes one configurable platform in which selected applications are connected and added step by step, with no-code changes to forms and workflows, and with a RESTful API and file staging such as SFTP for exchange with other systems. The EcoOnline record describes products that sit side by side and are linked by separate means: a single sign-in service, a cross-product analytics layer, an automatic PDF export to a file-sharing service in eCompliance, and a partnership for scoping and maintaining integrations. It says plainly that a partnership announcement is not a ready-made connector and that a shared login does not mean every product is licensed.

On subject matter, the reviewed lists barely overlap beyond incidents, inspections and actions. EcoOnline's record documents chemical inventory with safety data sheet history and a specialist-supported assessment service, permit to work with contractor and access control, and toolbox-talk participation tracking. HSI Donesafe's record documents contractor self-registration with inductions and expiry notices, a quality module with supplier performance and nonconformance, certification management for first aid and emergency wardens, and a psychosocial hazard module. For United States logs, the Donesafe record names OSHA 300, 301 and 300A, while the EcoOnline record cites a guide saying the 300 log is populated automatically without naming a module. On price, one record describes worker, module and service inputs and the other a request for a product-specific proposal; neither shows an amount.

When each is the safer first demo

    Start with HSI Donesafe when

HSI Donesafe is the safer first demo when you want one workflow built to your own design and extended later: a hazard or incident form with conditional fields, offline capture on the devices you own, and an action that returns a result to the reporter. Ask who maintains the configuration after go-live, and agree which single module is licensed first, since the record advises a staged start with a named internal owner.

    Start with EcoOnline when

EcoOnline is the safer first demo when the first requirement is chemical control, a supported COSHH-type assessment or permit and contractor control in the Control of Work group. Ask the vendor to name each product, region and app in the proposal, and to show any handover between products rather than describe it, because the record says a chemical or EHS record does not automatically hand off to ESG or another product.

    A two-week evaluation plan

    Ask HSI Donesafe

    • Ask how many workers the quote assumes and whether contractors and occasional contributors are counted, and ask for implementation, configuration changes, integration access and support as separate lines.
    • Ask which of the offline-capable forms, checklists, audits, hazards and incidents your purchased modules include, and what the app does with a conflicting edit on reconnection.

    Ask EcoOnline

    • Ask which products and regions the proposal covers, and whether the unlimited-user statement on a vendor comparison page applies to them in your contract.
    • Ask for evaluation terms in writing and for the app each field user would use, since a sales demonstration or a free safety data sheet search does not show a trial.

Week 1, the field and the connection. Start a hazard or incident on a phone with a photo, lose the connection part way, finish, reconnect and check the office record. Then try a cold start with no connection. For HSI Donesafe, include a restart of the app before reconnecting. For EcoOnline, run the sequence in each named app, because the EHS brochure, Chemical Manager and eCompliance each make a different statement, and write down the preparation and login each one needs.

Week 2, the specialist path and the handover. For HSI Donesafe, take a contractor from registration through an expired qualification and a logged hazard, and a nonconformance to verified closure. For EcoOnline, approve a chemical for two locations, change its safety data sheet and look at what follows, and finish a sample inspection in eCompliance and read the PDF that reaches the file-sharing destination, then correct the form and see what happens to the copy already sent. Compare the two outcomes against the modules written in each quote.

What the records do not establish

    HSI Donesafe

    • A numeric price, currency or billing interval, or a self-service free trial.
    • Attachment limits, conflict handling or offline use of every configured module.
    • Return-to-work handling, wellbeing check-in formats or confidentiality controls beyond anonymous reporting in the psychosocial module.

    EcoOnline

    • A price for any product, or the product and territory to which the unlimited-user statement applies.
    • A cold start offline in every app, and the eCompliance support instructions, which could not be retrieved.
    • Whether the single sign-in and analytics layers cover the products you would buy.

    Neither product

    • Which approach is quicker or cheaper to roll out: neither record measured effort, time or cost.
    • That either product satisfies a particular regional rule on recordkeeping, permits or contractor duties.
