    Where the two scopes differ

These two records are both modular, but they are shaped differently. The Enablon record describes a portfolio of distinct application scopes: separate application families for EHS, environment, plant risk, work control and sustainability data, along with a field app and integration tooling, and no family is assumed to be in every licence. The Donesafe record describes one configurable platform from which buyers choose application modules; the vendor's pricing page speaks of more than fifty, and the record names incidents, hazards, contractors and inductions, quality, nonconformance, emergency management and psychosocial risk. The record also notes that HSI acquired Donesafe in 2020 and that the names share ownership.

The work-control end differs. Enablon documents permit, isolation and operational risk applications, simultaneous-operations warnings, process hazard analysis, barrier monitoring and management of change, with the record warning that offline permit authorisation and conflict resolution are not established. The Donesafe record describes none of these. In turn, it names OSHA 300, 301 and 300A log outputs for the United States, which the Enablon record does not mention, and a psychosocial module that carries ISO 45003 alignment wording. Each module list needs a schedule against the quote.

Commercial and technical terms also differ. Both vendors keep prices off their pages: Enablon works from a scoped proposal, and Donesafe prices by total workers, chosen modules and support services, with its pricing page offering a vendor-built sandbox during discussions; the record has not verified a self-service trial. For offline work, Enablon documents Go for field events and inspections, and Donesafe documents an offline app that covers forms, checklists, audits, hazard logging and incident logging, with attachments and conflicts unverified. On integration, Enablon's Hub is a development kit and Donesafe lists a REST API with SFTP staging; access and cost are open for both.

When each is the safer first demo

    Start with Enablon when

Open the Enablon session with a requirement that crosses applications: a field finding that should lead into a permit, an isolation or a barrier decision. Have the quote list every application and the sites and roles using it, then watch a maintenance job with a second crew in the same area proceed through the control-of-work screens you would license.

    Start with HSI Donesafe when

Open the Donesafe session with a workflow you want live within weeks, such as hazard capture through to a reviewed corrective action, or contractor registration with inductions. Ask who maintains the configuration afterwards, how contractors are counted in the worker total and which modules the quote lists.

    A two-week evaluation plan

    Ask Enablon

    • Does the schedule name every application, site, role and mobile workflow, and which Hub interfaces would be delivered rather than left as development work?
    • Which permit, isolation and change approvals can proceed only with a live connection, and what is the agreed fallback?

    Ask HSI Donesafe

    • Do contractors and occasional contributors count towards the worker total that sets the price, and what do implementation, configuration changes and API access add?
    • Which configured modules and fields reach the offline app, and how are attachments and simultaneous edits handled?

Week 1: capture one hazard with a photo on the offline app of each product, using the same device, then restart the app, reconnect and compare what arrives on the server, photo included. Next assign a corrective action and see what the reporter can view when it closes. Donesafe's pricing page offers a vendor-set-up sandbox; Enablon's demonstration request is not a trial tenant, so agree an environment, test users and dates first.

Week 2: in Enablon, put two crews on one area, take their permits and isolations through the quoted applications, and alter a condition part-way through. In Donesafe, register a contractor with a qualification that lapses and take an incident through its review stages with one rejection. Finish by naming who would maintain each configuration after go-live and listing the extra modules each exercise required.

    Worked evaluation scenarios

These scenarios are hypothetical. They show how to turn the record facts into a demo test and what outcome would change a choice; they are not case studies or customer results.

Hypothetical: a site where a lapsed licence should keep a contractor out

A logistics park lets about two hundred contractors onto site each month, and an expired licence should stop entry or at least raise an alert. The Donesafe record describes contractor self-registration, qualification records, inductions, expiry notifications and a link to site entry, and asks buyers to test whether an expired credential blocks or only warns. In the Enablon record, contractor oversight appears on the process-safety pages as safety records, incident analysis and comparison of performance, with onboarding, access and data sources left to confirm. Register a test contractor in each product, let a qualification lapse and note who is told, what status appears and whether the gate decision changes. If a lapse only warns, write the manual check into the entry procedure.

Hypothetical: a three-year rollout that adds one capability a year

A manufacturer plans to start with incidents and hazards, add contractor control in year two and nonconformance handling in year three. The Donesafe record ties its price to headcount, selected modules and support options, and describes modules that connect step by step. The Enablon record separates its EHS, environmental, process-safety, work-control and ESG offerings and wants every application, site and role listed in the proposal. Ask each vendor for a three-year schedule, then add a second module in a demonstration environment and see whether earlier records link to it. If adding a module reopens implementation or the worker count, price that in year one.

Hypothetical: an incident review that must not be closed by its investigator

A company wants an incident to be investigated by one person and approved by another, with rejection possible and every stage logged. The Donesafe record describes an investigation that can use RCA, 5 Whys or ICAM and then passes through review of the findings, corrective actions, review of those actions and closure, all configurable, and asks buyers to prove reviewer separation. The Enablon record describes connected hazards, risks, controls and incident processes, and warns that configuration quality decides the outcome. Enter one test incident in each, reject a closure, reopen it and read the stage log. If the same user can approve their own work, or the log omits a rejection, record that as a configuration task.

What the records do not establish

    Enablon

    • A subscription amount, minimum seat count or free trial.
    • Offline permit approval or isolation changes, or automatic resolution of simultaneous-work conflicts.
    • That the Hub development kit delivers a finished connector to your own systems.
    • Anything about the scope of the vendor's SOC 2 attestation, which was not reviewed.

    HSI Donesafe

    • The rate, the currency and the billing cycle, none of which is published, or a self-service trial.
    • Limits on offline attachments, how two people editing one record are reconciled, or which configured modules work offline.
    • Whether a lapsed credential stops site entry or merely triggers a notice.
    • Permit-to-work or isolation workflows, which the record does not describe.

    Neither product

    • Whether either platform lowers incident rates or shortens reporting cycles: no outcome data was reviewed.
    • That either product on its own meets duties under construction safety regulations or injury recordkeeping rules.
    • Anything about customer satisfaction, since both records rely on vendor pages and no independent review.
