    Where the two scopes differ

Both records warn that a vendor name is not a single thing you can buy, and they split the warning along different lines. The EcoOnline record describes a portfolio: EHS workflows, a Control of Work group (contractor management, permit to work, ePermits and access control), Chemical Manager for inventory and safety data sheet history, Sypol for specialist-supported COSHH assessments, eCompliance, and ESG software from Ecometrica. It states that these are not aliases of one subscription. The Intelex record splits by tier and by application: Safety Essentials, Advanced and Enterprise are different buying scopes, and Permit to Work, Permit Management, Document Control, Management of Change and the nonconformance and corrective action applications are described separately. In both cases the quote, not the website, defines the scope.

The records point to different strengths in the chemical and the document-control direction, and the comparison is only about what each reviewed. EcoOnline's record documents a chemical inventory, safety data sheet versions, approval and substitution workflows, and a service that prepares an assessment from the material, activity and location a customer supplies; it adds that local suitability still needs review. The Intelex record lists no chemical inventory application, but it does describe revision control with acknowledgements, a management of change routing, audit scheduling with due-dated action plans, and corrective action reporting with a verification step. Neither list proves the other product lacks the capability, only that the reviewed sources do not show it.

Commercial and mobile statements also differ. Intelex publishes an entry price for Essentials, with a 25-user minimum and annual billing, while Advanced and Enterprise are quoted. EcoOnline shows no amount: its pricing address redirected to the homepage on 26 September 2026, and an unlimited-user statement on a vendor comparison page is not treated as a total. On connectivity, the Intelex record documents disconnected incident, inspection, observation and near-miss capture but lists responsive web for Essentials, so native offline entitlement must be confirmed. The EcoOnline record says its EHS brochure qualifies offline work as continuing after an online start, and that Chemical Manager and eCompliance have their own statements. The two do not establish a cold start offline.

When each is the safer first demo

    Start with EcoOnline when

EcoOnline is the safer first demo when the first requirement is a chemical record that someone has to approve for a given site, a COSHH-style assessment, or permits and contractor access in one control-of-work group. Ask the vendor to name the product, region and service behind each step, because the record says the assessment service and the inventory are scoped separately. Include a safety data sheet replacement and ask which locations and assessments are flagged afterwards.

    Start with Intelex when

Intelex is the safer first demo when the first requirement is a governed record across several applications: an incident that becomes an action plan, a procedure replaced and re-acknowledged, a change request routed through evaluation, or an HR system feeding worker records. Request the demonstration on the named tier, since the Essentials entry price covers incidents, action plans and inspections and treats other listed safety applications as add-ons.

    A two-week evaluation plan

    Ask EcoOnline

    • Ask for each of EHS, Chemical Manager, Sypol, eCompliance and any ESG item as its own proposal line with its region, and ask which is the app your field staff would open.
    • Ask for the assessment service, implementation, integration support and renewal to be priced separately from the subscription, and for written evaluation terms, because a self-service trial was not verified.

    Ask Intelex

    • Ask which tier is quoted, whether native iOS and Android access is included at that tier, and what each named application, connector and the implementation cost.
    • Ask for the trial duration and the enabled applications in writing, and for the API entitlement, since the reference describes a throttling limit that affects bulk loads.

Week 1, field capture. On both products create an incident with a photo on a phone that began the session online, then drop the connection mid-record and finish it, reconnect and check the office record. Repeat from a cold start with no connection and write down what is blocked. For EcoOnline, run this in each app named in the proposal, including Chemical Manager if it is quoted. For Intelex, run it on the exact tier quoted and note whether a native app or only responsive web was used.

Week 2, the specialist handoff. On EcoOnline, request a chemical for two locations, attach its sheet, show who approves each, then replace the sheet and see what follows; ask to see a Sypol request if quoted. On Intelex, replace a controlled document and have a test worker acknowledge the new revision, then raise a nonconformance and follow it through corrective action to a verification step. Finish by comparing the two quotes against the application names you saw in the demonstration.

What the records do not establish

    EcoOnline

    • A numeric price, a free trial, or whether the unlimited-user statement applies to the product you would buy.
    • Offline start-up in the chemical and eCompliance apps; the record could not retrieve the current eCompliance support instructions.
    • That the OSHA 300 population described in a US guide applies to a named module, or that 300A and 301 output exists.

    Intelex

    • A price for Advanced or Enterprise, or the length and eligibility of a trial.
    • Offline permit authorisation, isolation status or complete ESG reporting.
    • A chemical inventory application: the record does not list one, and does not say it is absent.

    Neither product

    • Relative implementation time, total cost or user satisfaction: both records review vendor documentation and tested nothing.
    • A ready-made connector to your own systems, or who builds and maintains one.

How should I compare offline capability?
Use the exact proposed mobile application and plan. Download required data, disconnect, create a record with a photo, reconnect and inspect synchronization. Record which preparation and tasks require connectivity.
How should I decide between these products?
Set acceptance criteria for your actual workflow. Complete the same demo, record observed results separately from vendor statements and resolve remaining questions in a scoped pilot. The linked profiles show the sources and review status for each product.
