Where the two scopes differ
Both records describe a Scope 1, 2 and 3 inventory, so the comparison is about how a first figure is produced and what must happen before it is reported. The Greenly help articles describe an assessment whose first mandatory task is a short business-profile survey, recommends data collection modules, and can show a first result from accounting spend before any activity data exists; a progress view then separates the activity-based part from the monetary part. The Persefoni pages describe a transaction-level ledger modelled on a financial one, fed by forms and bulk uploads in the free plan and by APIs and an Integration Hub in Advanced.
The controls sit at different points. Greenly puts two controls ahead of the report: the module choice cannot be changed once confirmed, and a mandatory quality review lets each failed check be fixed or dismissed with a justification, then asks for final approval. Persefoni's measurement page labels period locking and approval before data joins the ledger as coming soon for Advanced, and marks activity logs and per-calculation formula and factor views as coming soon for the free plan, while the plan comparison lists review and audit controls without those labels. Reconcile the two pages in writing before relying on an approval workflow.
Entry terms and identity differ. Greenly lists three named packages without amounts, with a custom API, single sign-on and extra entities as optional lines, and the record found no verified platform trial. Persefoni lists a permanent free plan and an Advanced plan by proposal. Greenly and Normative announced a merger on 15 September 2026; the Greenly record says this does not settle which entity contracts or which products are already unified, so ask who signs the order.

When each is the safer first demo
Start with Greenly when
Greenly is the safer first demo when the starting material is an accounting export and a supplier list. Bring a ledger extract with inconsistent supplier names, then ask to see the first spend-based estimate, the manual supplier matching and one quality check dismissed with a reason. Ask what can still change after the module choice is confirmed.
Start with Persefoni when
Persefoni is the safer first demo when the data already exists as utility, travel and cloud-usage records. Load a utility file through the free plan's bulk upload, then ask for the same source through the matching Integration Hub connector in Advanced and compare the two ledgers. Have each coming-soon feature opened live.
A two-week evaluation plan
Ask Greenly
- Which of the three listed packages includes supplier surveys, given the NZC-only tag, and which of the custom API, single sign-on and extra entities are separate lines?
- Which legal entity contracts after the announced merger, and does each quoted module exist today?
Ask Persefoni
- Which named connectors do your systems need, which plan includes each, and who keeps them working after onboarding?
- What date, written into the order, applies to the activity logs, period locks and advanced permissions marked as coming soon?
Week 1: give both products a month of accounting transactions with deliberately inconsistent supplier names and a month of metered utility readings. Record what each does with the transactions (estimate, flag or refuse), how many need manual correction, and which figures are labelled estimates. No verified trial is recorded for either: use the free Persefoni plan for the utility file, and ask Greenly whether a vendor-run workspace is possible.
Week 2: follow one material figure back to its input, factor and last editor. Change the input after the quality review in Greenly, and after a review in Persefoni, and note what happens to a figure already exported. Finish with one handoff, the Workiva route or ESG datapoint transfer for Greenly and a framework export for Persefoni, and list the manual steps left.
Worked evaluation scenarios
These scenarios are hypothetical. They show how to turn the record facts into a demo test and what outcome would change a choice; they are not case studies or customer results.
Hypothetical: a 120-person consultancy that has only a ledger
A consultancy has an accounting export and a travel booking file but no activity records, and needs a first figure for the board within six weeks. The Greenly record says an early spend-based estimate is less precise than activity data and is replaced progressively. The Persefoni measurement page stresses activity and usage data, and the record does not describe a spend-based first pass. Give both products the same ledger and the same travel file. Ask each for a first figure, the share of it that is estimated and the steps that would replace the estimate. If Persefoni needs activity data before it shows anything, the time to a board figure moves; if Greenly's estimate cannot be tagged for later replacement, ask how year-on-year comparisons will be kept.
Hypothetical: a retailer whose data sits in cloud, travel and utility systems
A retailer wants feeds instead of spreadsheets for cloud usage, expense-based travel and utility bills. The Persefoni Integration Hub page names connectors for cloud cost and usage, two expense tools, a travel booking tool, spreadsheets and utilities, and the plan comparison places APIs and the Hub in Advanced. The Greenly help article lists file import, an accounting connection and manual entry, and the pricing page lists a custom API as an option. Choose the three sources you actually use and ask each vendor how each one arrives, how often it refreshes and who fixes a rejected record. If a needed connector is Advanced-only or a paid custom build, add that to the first-year cost before comparing quotes.
Hypothetical: a procurement team deciding which suppliers to survey
A procurement team holds 200 suppliers, and about twenty names in the file are misspelt or abbreviated. The Greenly help article says supplier attribution depends on matching the names in the supplier list to accounting and activity records, offers five ways to load the list, and tags survey sending as NZC only. The Persefoni record puts sending supplier requests in a higher plan than answering them and its supplier page still shows a coming-soon tag. Load the same list into both, count the manual corrections, and ask which suppliers each quoted package could survey. If sending needs a higher package than the one quoted, or most corrections fall to your team, price that effort into the comparison.
What the records do not establish
Greenly
- A numeric subscription for any package, or a free platform trial.
- That a first spend-based figure can be filed as it stands, or that module choices can be reversed.
- Disconnected capture, calculation or review.
- That every product and contract is already unified with Normative.
Persefoni
- An Advanced subscription amount.
- That the controls the measurement page marks as coming soon exist in your account.
- How a spend-based estimate would be handled; the reviewed pages emphasise activity and usage data.
- A mobile or disconnected workflow.
Neither product
- Which product gives a lower footprint, a quicker first result or a better audit outcome: nothing was measured.
- Connector delivery effort, or whether audit-ready wording would satisfy an assurance provider.
Written from the profile records and the decision guide above, not from a hands-on test. Where a record is silent, the page says so instead of filling the gap.
