Where the two scopes differ
These two records start from opposite ends. Novisto is described as a system for collecting ESG data from many contributors, reviewing it through validation and approval gates and turning it into disclosures, with a carbon offering added; the record cites a 31 March 2026 news item about a London carbon software acquisition. Persefoni is described as a carbon inventory with a report builder attached. The first record asks who owns each metric and signs it off; the second asks how each emissions figure was calculated and what the plan lets you export.
Framework wording needs care in both. Novisto's pages describe tailored CDP questionnaires, a submission route through an accredited API, a double-materiality workflow and mappings to several taxonomies. Persefoni's pricing page names CSRD, ISSB and CDP as frameworks for its free report builder, while its reporting page says the tool initially supports CSRD with ISSB, CDP and others to follow. Quantitative GHG metrics reports for CDP, SECR, ISSB, CSRD and California's SB 253 are a separate row, with add-on labels on some. A buyer who needs CDP should ask to see the questionnaire open in the account.
Beyond emissions, Persefoni documents location-level tracking of waste, hazardous waste and water withdrawal and discharge, described by the record as activity tracking and not permit compliance. Novisto's record documents regional data-residency options and a statement that customer data stays isolated and does not train its shared models, all to be fixed in the contract. Any template named for CSRD should be checked against the rules in force for your reporting year: Member States have until 19 March 2027 to transpose the reporting changes in Directive (EU) 2026/470, which amends the CSRD. The records do not say which version of the standards each template follows.

When each is the safer first demo
Start with Novisto when
Novisto is the safer first demo when the work is a recurring disclosure with many contributors. Assign three metrics to three owners, let one submit late and another submit a value that fails validation, and watch the reminders, the review gate and the lock. Ask which carbon modules the quote contains.
Start with Persefoni when
Persefoni is the safer first demo when emissions are the only data set and one framework drives reporting. Build a small inventory, open the report builder for that framework and see which answers draw on the inventory. Ask whether the framework is live, and which exports are paid additions.
A two-week evaluation plan
Ask Novisto
- Which modules are in the quote (collection, materiality, reporting, carbon, supplier surveys), and what contributor and supplier access does each include?
- What are the data region, backup and replication locations, and where is the report behind the SOC 2 statement on the AI product page?
Ask Persefoni
- Which frameworks are open in the report builder today on your plan, and by what date will those labelled coming soon be?
- Which GHG metrics reports are paid additions, and what does each add to the first-year cost?
Week 1: enter ten ESG data points in both, mixing emissions and other values. For each, note who can enter, correct and approve it, and what happens when someone changes it after approval. Use emissions, waste and water values in Persefoni and workforce or governance values in Novisto, and write down each metric for which a product has no field. Persefoni offers a free plan; Novisto's documented route is a demonstration.
Week 2: produce one framework output from each, with attachments, and have a read-only reviewer open it. In Novisto, run the CDP questionnaire up to the submission step without submitting. In Persefoni, produce the CSRD output and ask for a preview of the paid metrics report if offered. List the steps left outside each tool and the spend they imply.
Worked evaluation scenarios
These scenarios are hypothetical. They show how to turn the record facts into a demo test and what outcome would change a choice; they are not case studies or customer results.
Hypothetical: a manufacturer with twelve contributors and a CDP deadline
A manufacturer has twelve people feeding a CDP response and a deadline six weeks away. The Novisto record describes tailored questionnaires with reuse of last year's answers, owner tracking, reminders and a submission route through an accredited API. The Persefoni pricing page names CDP among the frameworks for its report builder, while the reporting page lists CDP as coming soon. Ask each vendor to open the current-year questionnaire, assign three questions to named owners and show the route to submission. If Persefoni cannot open it in the plan you would buy, or the Novisto route needs an entitlement that is not in the quote, settle that before comparing prices.
Hypothetical: a site-level water and waste review
A plant group wants monthly water withdrawal, discharge destination and hazardous waste records by site in one tool. The Persefoni plan comparison documents location-level tracking of those items, and the record warns that this is not permit compliance. The Novisto record documents custom metrics, targets and approval gates, but describes no waste or water module. Prepare ten months of readings for two sites, with one site missing a month. Enter them in both, check units, location roll-up and who may edit, and see how the gap is shown. If a product accepts only annual totals, or hides the missing month inside a total, decide whether site-level detail is a requirement.
Hypothetical: a sustainability manager bound by a data-residency policy
A company's IT policy requires ESG data to stay in a named region. The Novisto pricing page advertises data-residency options across the EU, the Middle East and North America, and the record asks for the selected region, backups and replication to be fixed in the contract. The Persefoni record does not describe hosting regions, although its trust page lists subprocessors with locations. Ask both vendors to state in writing where data, backups and support access sit, and which subprocessors touch them, and keep the answers with the procurement file. If Persefoni cannot name a region that satisfies the policy, its free plan cannot be piloted with live data, however convenient the sign-up.
What the records do not establish
Novisto
- A numeric subscription price, or a free trial.
- Offline editing, approval or synchronisation.
- That the carbon offering, supplier access and any named integration sit inside your proposal.
- That the CDP submission route is current for the questionnaire year you need.
Persefoni
- An Advanced subscription amount.
- That ISSB, CDP and other frameworks marked as coming soon are open in your account.
- Disconnected calculation, mobile capture or hosting regions.
Neither product
- Which tool produces better disclosures: output quality was not reviewed.
- That either template follows the standards version or directive in force for your year, or that any output amounts to compliance or independent assurance.
