Where the two scopes differ
Both records describe an entry route, and each comes with conditions. The Sweep record describes a narrower Starter workflow that its page (footer 2024) says can be upgraded at any time to a tier it calls Pro, and asks for Starter to be judged as a separate scope from the contracted platform. Persefoni's entry route is a permanent free plan: its pricing FAQ says it covers unlimited locations, vehicles, equipment and historical years, but is limited to one user and leaves out the detailed GHG metrics reports. Neither shows a paid-tier amount.
Supplier data is where each record adds a plan or role condition. Sweep describes collection that starts from sector estimates and moves to surveys, supplier portals and verified submissions, with automated reminders, validator and approval workflows and a free account for every surveyed supplier; its page says all four GHG Protocol methods are supported in one platform. Persefoni lists answering requests in the free plan and sending them in Advanced, with a coming-soon tag on its supplier page. That page also describes suppliers measuring their own footprint in the free plan, a different mechanism from answering a survey.
Organisation and control are the third difference. The Sweep record describes models for entities, business units and regions with role-based access, and an AI assistant whose changes need user sign-off, whose actions are logged and which can be disabled; its AI page adds a connection to other AI tools. Persefoni's single-user limit and unlimited users in Advanced set where collaboration starts, and the comparison lists company-level attribution with a location-level add-on against a customisable structure. Neither record establishes offline use.

When each is the safer first demo
Start with Sweep when
Sweep is the safer first demo when several entities and suppliers of mixed maturity are involved from the start. Ask for a campaign to ten suppliers at different levels, one of which never answers, and watch the reminders, validation and the approval that turns an estimate into a primary figure. Ask which steps belong to Starter.
Start with Persefoni when
Persefoni is the safer first demo when one analyst must produce a first inventory inside a free account. Complete the sign-up, load one site, and list each screen that asks for an upgrade. Then have a supplier-side user join the free plan and answer a request, to see what you receive.
A two-week evaluation plan
Ask Sweep
- Can the modules, supplier programme size and connectors be quoted as separate lines, and what changes when Starter is upgraded to Pro or beyond?
- What AI settings exist by role, is there a tenant-level switch, and what does the contract say about model providers and retention?
Ask Persefoni
- Which plan holds sending requests, answering, APIs, extra users and metrics reports, and what does each paid addition cost?
- Can the feature labelled coming soon on the supplier page be shown live in your account before it counts in the comparison?
Week 1: run one list of ten suppliers through both, including one that answers late, one whose number looks implausible and one with no contact. Record how each product treats the estimate that stands in until a response arrives, how a response is validated and who approves it. The records show no verified trial: use the free Persefoni plan directly, and for Sweep ask for a workspace on the package you would buy, not Starter, if suppliers are in scope.
Week 2: build two entities that share one supplier in each product and give three users different roles. Check who sees what and what happens when an entity changes owner. In Persefoni, repeat this within the single-user limit to find the first screen that needs an upgrade. End by listing every quote line each vendor would have to add to match what you saw.
Worked evaluation scenarios
These scenarios are hypothetical. They show how to turn the record facts into a demo test and what outcome would change a choice; they are not case studies or customer results.
Hypothetical: a distributor with 120 suppliers and little time
A distributor holds 120 suppliers and wants better than spend-based figures for its largest. The Sweep record describes estimates replaced by survey and portal data, with free accounts for surveyed suppliers. The Persefoni record puts sending requests in Advanced and answering them in the free plan, and a supplier page describes suppliers using that plan to measure their own footprint. Onboard five real suppliers in each product, time the path to a first usable number and count the steps a supplier must take. If sending requests needs a plan above the one quoted, or suppliers must create accounts that your team then supports, add that workload to the comparison.
Hypothetical: a founder-led company outgrowing a free account
A founder-led company has used a free inventory for a year, and an investor now asks for a second user and a framework report. The Persefoni pricing FAQ says the free plan is limited to one user and leaves out the detailed metrics reports, with paid additions available. The Sweep Starter page says an upgrade is possible at any time. List what the second user and the investor's report need, then ask each vendor which plan holds them and what the change costs. If the upgrade means a re-implementation or a re-load of history, or the needed report is a separate add-on, cost that before treating either entry route as free.
Hypothetical: a group with three subsidiaries and rotating owners
A group has three subsidiaries, two of which may be sold, and the sustainability lead changes every two years. The Sweep record describes models for entities, business units and regions with role-based access, and the Persefoni plan comparison lists a customisable organisation structure alongside unlimited users in Advanced. Build the three entities in each product, give three users different roles, then remove one entity and reassign an owner. Check what happens to historical figures and to the supplier data attached. If history cannot be split off cleanly, or a role change leaves data visible to the wrong person, record that as a restructuring risk.
What the records do not establish
Sweep
- A subscription amount for any module or for Starter, or an unrestricted trial.
- Offline capture, queues, conflict handling or disconnected approval.
- That framework mappings or audit-ready wording lead to an assurance opinion.
- What an upgrade from Starter changes in price, limits and migration.
Persefoni
- An Advanced subscription amount.
- That sending supplier requests is live in your plan.
- Disconnected capture, mobile work, or that anomaly flags and reporting templates amount to compliance or assurance.
Neither product
- Which product gets a higher supplier response rate: no response data was reviewed.
- Connector delivery effort, or how much a supplier's own account adds to that supplier's workload.
