Where the two scopes differ
These records share a customer, the construction contractor, and a concern with subcontractors, but they use the worker differently. Assignar's record places the worker inside operations: qualifications and documents with expiry alerts, skill and certification signals on a scheduler, supervisor site diaries, timesheet approval and export, and custom forms for equipment checks and incident reports. HammerTech places the worker at the gate and at the permit: orientation content with quizzes, a reviewer who approves or rejects the submitted record, permits, pre-task plans and inspections. Assignar's question is who can be scheduled to this job and what the day produced. HammerTech's is who has been oriented and approved to start, and under which permit.
The most important gap is what happens when a credential is missing. Assignar's scheduler surfaces double-booking, missing certification and role mismatches before and after allocation, and its record presents them as aids to a human decision while noting that no hard stop on dispatch is documented. HammerTech's record describes expiry alerts on worker credentials and a reviewer decision on orientation, but it does not establish that a missing item stops a worker entering a site, and it asks the buyer to keep completion, reviewed credentials and permission to perform the task apart. A requirement written as must be blocked therefore needs a demonstration in both products, run on the buyer's own configuration.
Commercial and technical terms are alike in being unpublished, and different in what they leave open. Both are quote-only. Assignar's record asks for Operations features, dashboard and field users, onboarding, term and region as separate lines, treats Assignar Pay as a separate offering and describes the public API as an add-on; its evaluation route is a demo-led test drive. HammerTech's record says pricing is not per user and reflects construction volume, company size, active sites and support level, and lists named connections and an Open API whose ownership and entitlement remain to be confirmed, plus a hardware route through Irongate with its own contract questions. Offline is partial in both: Assignar documents automatic and manual offline modes without describing the cached data, attachment queue or conflict behaviour, while HammerTech documents Inspect only.

When each is the safer first demo
Start with Assignar when
Assignar is the safer first demo when crews, equipment and recurring paperwork share one bottleneck. Schedule a compliant and a non-compliant candidate and see exactly what the signals do, then have a supervisor complete a site diary with crew time, a photo note, weather and a client signature. The record warns that dashboard edits can replace the supervisor signature and remove the client signature, so edit the diary from the dashboard and look at what the PDF and the timesheet export then show.
Start with HammerTech when
HammerTech is the safer first demo when readiness for hazardous work and closure by subcontractors come first. Follow a worker from orientation to a permit and a pre-task plan with its linked job hazard analysis and crew sign-offs, then an inspection issue assigned to a trade and closed through the subcontractor route. Ask which steps work offline: the record documents it for Inspect, and shows no offline matrix for permits, pre-task plans or orientation approval.
A two-week evaluation plan
Ask Assignar
- Itemise Operations features, dashboard and field users, onboarding, term, regional scope and any Pay offering as separate lines, with the public API add-on and its owner.
- Ask which forms, documents and assignments stay available offline, and what the attachment queue and conflict behaviour are.
Ask HammerTech
- Ask for the quote assumptions in writing: annual construction volume, active sites, onboarding and support level, billing term and renewal treatment, plus named connectors, Open API entitlement and any hardware.
- Ask which projects and records the general contractor's access gives a subcontractor, and how worker evidence is retrieved after a subcontractor leaves and after the contract ends.
Week 1, the missing credential. Create test workers, one with every required credential and one with an expired item. In Assignar, try to schedule both and note whether the signal warns or blocks, then renew the credential and watch the notification. In HammerTech, submit an orientation with a deliberately missing item, have a reviewer reject and then approve it, and try to start a permit and pre-task plan. Use a restricted subcontractor account in each, since both records ask for subcontractor visibility to be tested. Neither record establishes a free trial, so ask for a vendor-led environment and agree test data and dates before starting.
Week 2, the paperwork that follows. In Assignar, complete a site diary as a supervisor, edit it from the dashboard and inspect what changed in the signature, the PDF and the approved timesheet export. In HammerTech, run an inspection with an issue assigned to a trade, capture it with the device offline, close it through the subcontractor route and compare the evidence trail. Finish by asking each vendor for a three-year cost with the interfaces you plan: a payroll file or connector for Assignar, and a named connection or the Open API for HammerTech.
What the records do not establish
Assignar
- A public subscription amount, an unrestricted free trial, or the price of the API add-on.
- A hard block on dispatching a worker whose credential is missing.
- The offline record cache, attachment queue or conflict behaviour.
- Investigation or permit-to-work depth from a configured form.
HammerTech
- A subscription amount, term or renewal formula, or any automatic true-up to construction volume.
- Offline permit, pre-task-plan or orientation approval.
- That a listed connection or the Open API is deployed for your systems.
- Outcome evidence: dashboards and trends are not proof of fewer incidents.
Neither product
- That a completed form, diary or orientation shows competence or authorisation for a task.
- Implementation time, total cost or customer satisfaction.
- Any hands-on result: both records are reviews of vendor documentation.
